In case anyone was wondering, the answers in the back of the Advanced Trig book for pages 45-46, questions 6 and 8, are wrong.

If you're going to have new math, at least get it right. Man.

Man, I so want to introduce about half the girls at this school to my seventh grade algebra teacher. I bet he hasn't called on anybody without a Y chromosome once in his entire career.

Dude, he would so get an eraser to the back of the head if I had that class....

Well, the funny part is, the summer after I had him I hit the genetic lottery and my parents had to homeschool me, and my mom was the one handling the advanced math, because Dad's an English lit/ag science man. She was awfully smug about it, too, I gather she'd had words at the parent-teacher conference.

Ah, but the point of the new math was that it didn't matter if you got the right answer, so long as you knew what you were doing.

New math is such a load of crap, really.

And before you say anything, Jamie, I'm on my way to bed now. Was just checking the journals before I crash.

There's a new math? What happened to the old math? Did we really need to trade in one math or another?

It was this stupid trend in education for a while, where they were supposed to be teaching 'the problem solving process' or some such bs, and the big line was that it didn't matter if you got the answer right, you just had to know the proper way to do the problem. Very lame, and pretty much given up in respectable schools everywhere.

But... that doesn't work. If you do the problem the proper way, you get the right answer. If you don't get the right answer, you didn't do it the proper way. That's just asinine.

Asinine didn't even begin to cover it, imo. Esentially, it meant that if you'd shown your work and taken the proper steps, you'd get the credit even if you were unable to add two and two together to get four. The only good thing that came out of the whole thing was a song by Tom Lehrer.

Sounds like something a bleeding heart devised.
