Why do you have to be such a pain in the ass to apply to? Why? WHY?

I love the essays. "Why do you want to come to school here?"

Reason #1: You're close by.
Reason #2: Your cirruculum is something I respond to.
Reason #3: You're close by.
Reason #4: Bragging rights.
Reason #5: You're close by, and I hate change.
Reason #6: I'm smarter than hell, did you even see my SATs?
Reason #7: I'm the illegitimate daughter of a shipping tycoon and a former resident of the Three Crowns Mobile Home Park, and I want to add the title of "Illegitimate daughter of shipping tycoon and *insert name of school* graduate."
Reason #8: Yeah, you're close by.

And hey, if I don't get in, there's always Clown College.

When I was applying to university I got the impression that the application process was designed to weed out the easily-discouraged by dint of tedious questions.

Of course, I was also a non-resident homeschooled traveling person who wanted to attend one of the top science universities in the United Kingdom, so in my case there might have been a few more tedious questions than usual.

At least you get the option of choosing where you attend college.

Het, two years ago it wasn't likely that I was going to get ahigh school diploma, let alone get to go to college. This is an opportunty I relish. Well, not the application part...

You will be fine. It will all work out. You only have to fill out the applications once, right? Then they will be over.

Unless she wants to transfer ever, then there are more. And more if you transfer again. Then there are job applications, grant applications, grad school applications,

And then there's the begging... begging professors to get into closed sessions, begging advisors for recommendation letters, begging your parents for more money, begging scholarly journals to take your research seriously even though part of your thesis is 'because I can see the EM fields shift you morons!'

Why did I get into this school thing again?
